Wake Up With Oatmeal

This morning has been great so far, I ran 3 miles and have been up since 6. I love waking up and feeling productive! Because I have been so proactive this morning, I am deciding to hand out a speech on why Americans should be eating breakfast on a daily basis.
Going without breakfast is like driving on an empty tank. It’s just senseless, people. Many do not realize that eating something light in the morning will actually further fat loss and help you maintain a healthy weight. Adults often feel sluggish and tired upon arriving at their workplace. Try feeding your body a little something to wake up! Oh, hey, parents, why don’t you also try feeding your children something other than processed cereal bars for breakfast?…maybe then they won’t act like lunatics at school (did I really say that?). Not trying to be pushy…it’s the future teacher in me talking.
Oatmeal is one of the best things you can start your day with. Low on the glycemic index and full of water soluble fiber, oats help you feel fuller longer. In my opinion, they are also wonderfully yummy and comforting.
If you have not tried stirring peanut butter into your oatmeal, I am sorry. Not to worry, today, you will now know the wonders of this addition. The oats become creamy and peanuty (my fave). They literally taste like a cookie. Please, get rid of the packet of stuff and feast your eyes on this tomorrow morning.
Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal
Serves two.
Boil 2 cups of water.
Add 1 cup of steel cut oats, such as Bob’s Red Mill
Cook for 10- 20 minutes, to the consistency you like
Remove for heat and stir in half of a mashed banana and 2 tbsp. natural peanut butter
Add a little agave nectar or honey along with a pinch of cinnamon
I top my oats with a little vanilla soymilk and Uncle Sam’s Bran Flakes for a little crunch.
